Sickle Cell

NEW YEAR AND NEW YOU

live-PX SC Jan 18

Hello everyone and happy new year to you once again!

I don’t know about you but 2017 ended with a bang for me.  So here is what happened…

It was Christmas eve and I was all ready for Christmas, food all prepared and bought, all looking ready for the feast that was Christmas.

Woke up on Xmas eve and went into the kitchen to get a drink of water, by the time I walked back to my bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed, I could feel pains in my back and ribs and I thought oh no!

And that is how I found myself bed bound with everyone one around me having a good time celebrating.  What a boomer!  Sickle Cell and its volatility.  The last thing I wanted is call an ambulance to take me into hospital on Xmas day or during the festive season so, I soldiered on for the four days that I was in bed with strong pain killers and all.

As 2017 drew to a close and I reflected on my life, I was thankful to be alive; I was thankful that Sickle Cell had not and will not take me down before my time; I was thankful that at least, I am celebrating the new year; I was thankful for all my family members and friends who have been there for me, physically or over the phone.  I was just thankful to be amongst the living and so my word for you this new year is:

LIVE

As I end the first blog of the year, I want to encourage you to look after yourself more than ever before; you owe it to yourself to try as much as you can to be healthy and stay out of hospital this year.  Dress warm if you need to and keep hydrated, drink as much water as you are able to, all the time.

Wishing you well in 2018!
